Best Time to Visit

Namibia is known for its incredibly dry ecosystem, making survival for wildlife near impossible, however, wildlife has learned to not only live, but thrive in this harsh environment. Famously known for the large congregations of wildlife in Etosha National Park, Untamed Photo Safaris offers guests photographic tours during the driest time of the year.

The best time to visit Namibia is during the driest time of the year, when wildlife is desperate for water in the harsh desert-like salt pans of Etosha National Park. During the months of June and July, the water is slowly disappearing, causing animals that would normally never be seen together, drinking side by side at a waterhole. Once we get to August and September, guests experience sightings like no other destination on the planet. Imagine sitting at a waterhole with your camera ready in hand and in your frame, you spot Springbok, Ostrich, Wildebeests, Zebra, Giraffe, Elephant, Hyena, and Lion! September is the driest month of the year making sightings like the one described above happen on a daily basis.

Outside of Etosha National Park, we visit the Cubango River, North of the Okavango Delta. With the dry season in full force, animals are pushed to the rivers in search of a constant waterflow, making sightings on our river boat ride nothing less than amazing.

Etosha National Park located in the Northern West of Namibia is voted as one of the top and most unique national parks in the whole of Africa. The landscape here in Etosha is rather unique, holding a salt pan that reaches an astonishing 1,900 square miles. This salt pan once a lake many years ago is now a dry and vast open area providing small pockets of salt licks to its neighbouring wildlife.

The national park provides wildlife enthusiasts with a vast amount of wildlife that live outside of the pan where vehicles have the access for great photographic opportunities. This park holds many waterholes that bring vast amounts of wildlife to congregate around the areas where unique sightings can be witnessed and photographed. Animals such as Giraffe, Elephants, Black Rhino, Burchell’s Zebra, Springbok and Kudu can all be photographed in the same frame, making this park stand out from all the rest.

These marvellous congregational sightings are at their prime during the months of July, August and September where Namibia is dry. September however, holds the driest month making wildlife viewing better and bringing vast amounts of wildlife to all waterholes.
