Uganda Photo Safaris
Small-group and private wildlife photography safaris focused on mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, forest wildlife and Uganda’s most rewarding photographic regions.
Why Uganda Is Exceptional for Wildlife PhotographY
Uganda offers a very different kind of African photo safari, combining rainforest, primates, waterfalls, birdlife and classic savannah wildlife. It is one of the best destinations in Africa for photographing mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, with rich forest environments that create intimate, atmospheric and highly rewarding photographic opportunities.
Our Uganda photo safaris are designed for photographers who want to experience Africa beyond the open plains. With carefully planned routes, expert photographic guidance and time in Uganda’s most rewarding wildlife regions, each journey is built around primate encounters, forest light, ethical photography and meaningful time in the field.

Tailor-Made Private Uganda Photo Safaris
For photographers who prefer a more personal and flexible experience, we also design private Uganda photo safaris around your goals, travel dates and preferred wildlife encounters. Whether you want to focus on mountain gorillas in Bwindi or Mgahinga, chimpanzees in Kibale, classic wildlife in Murchison Falls, or a carefully paced primate-focused itinerary, a private safari allows the journey to be shaped around your photography.
Private Uganda safaris are especially useful for guests who want specific trekking dates, additional gorilla or chimpanzee permits, a slower pace, or a more bespoke combination of rainforest and savannah wildlife photography.

Best Time for a Uganda Photo Safari
Uganda can be photographed throughout the year, but conditions vary significantly between the drier and wetter seasons. For gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, drier months generally offer easier forest trails, more comfortable trekking conditions and better reliability for photography.
JANUARY to FEBRUARY
Excellent Dry-Season Trekking
One of the best times for Uganda photo safaris, with drier forest trails, quieter parks and excellent opportunities for mountain gorilla, chimpanzee and wildlife photography.
March to MAY
Rainy Season, Not Recommended
Heavy rains can make forest trails muddy and more difficult, so we do not usually recommend Uganda safari travel during these months for gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking or comfortable photography conditions.
JUNE TO SeptembeR
Excellent Dry-Season Trekking
One of the best times for Uganda wildlife photography, with drier conditions, easier trekking and excellent opportunities for mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and classic safari wildlife.
OCTOBER to December
Short Rains - Not Recommended
The short rains can bring lush landscapes and fewer visitors, but trekking conditions may be more challenging and less predictable, so we do not usually recommend this period for Uganda photo safaris.
TOP LOCATIONS IN UGANDA FOR WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Photography
Bwindi is one of Africa’s most important destinations for mountain gorilla photography, offering intimate encounters in dense, atmospheric rainforest. For photographers, the challenge and reward come from working with low light, forest depth, natural behaviour and the intensity of being close to wild gorillas.
Best for: Mountain gorillas | Rainforest photography | Intimate encounters
Murchison Falls Photo Safaris
Murchison Falls adds a classic safari element to a Uganda photo safari, with elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions, birdlife and the dramatic Nile landscape. It gives photographers a strong contrast to the forest-based primate experiences.
Best for: Savannah wildlife | Nile landscapes | Birdlife

Kibale Chimpanzee Photography
Kibale is one of the best places in Uganda for chimpanzee photography, with rich forest habitat and excellent opportunities to observe primate behaviour. The forest environment creates dramatic, challenging and rewarding photographic conditions.
Best for: Chimpanzees | Forest light | Primate behaviour
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Photography
Mgahinga offers a quieter and more intimate gorilla photography experience, set within a dramatic volcanic landscape. Its forested slopes, mountain atmosphere and smaller visitor numbers can make it especially rewarding for photographers seeking a more peaceful primate encounter.
Best for: Mountain gorillas | Volcanic landscapes | Quieter trekking

Specialist Uganda Photo Safari Guidance
Uganda photo safaris require a different approach from classic savannah safaris. Gorilla and chimpanzee photography often means working in low light, dense forest, uneven terrain and fast-changing conditions, so preparation, patience and realistic photographic guidance are essential.
Our Uganda photo safaris are planned around primate trekking logistics, forest photography, ethical wildlife encounters and time in the country’s most rewarding locations. With small groups, professional photographic guidance and carefully considered itineraries, we help photographers make the most of both Uganda’s rainforest encounters and its classic safari landscapes.
