Designed by Photographers, for Photographers
This Wild Kenya Photo Safari has been planned around the practical needs of wildlife photographers, from vehicle space and field positioning to low-angle hide photography and expert guidance in the field.
Professional Field Guidance
This safari is hosted by Mark or Jaren Fernley, professional wildlife photographers and co-founders of Untamed Photo Safaris. Throughout the safari, guests receive practical field guidance on light, animal behaviour, positioning, composition and camera settings, helping each photographer make the most of real wildlife encounters as they unfold.
Recommended Camera Gear
A mirrorless or DSLR camera body with good low-light performance is recommended, especially for early mornings, late afternoons and hide photography. Fast lenses are ideal where possible.
A 24-70mm lens is useful for wider landscapes, elephants, environmental portraits and storytelling images. A 70-200mm lens is one of the most versatile options for this safari, especially for hide photography, close-range wildlife and flexible compositions. A 300mm, 400mm, 500mm or 600mm lens is recommended for big cats, birds, distant wildlife and tighter portraits.
A second camera body can be helpful, particularly when moving between wide, mid-range and telephoto compositions, but it is not essential.
Photographic Safari Vehicles
Each group is limited to a maximum of 3 guests in a private photographic safari vehicle, giving every photographer their own row and generous working space.
The vehicles are designed to allow clear views, flexible positioning and comfortable use of long lenses, helping guests photograph from either side of the vehicle without obstruction.

Safari Locations
This Wild Kenya Photo Safari moves through three very different wildlife regions, each offering its own photographic focus. From elephants beneath Kilimanjaro to low-angle hide photography in Lumo Conservancy and predator-rich open plains in the Masai Mara, the itinerary has been designed to give photographers a varied and rewarding Kenya safari experience.

Amboseli National Park
Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most iconic elephant photography destinations, known for its open plains, marshland, birdlife and dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro when conditions are clear. The park is especially rewarding for photographing elephant herds, possible super tuskers, dust, backlight, soft morning scenes and classic East African landscapes.
Lumo Conservancy & Lions Bluff Photo Hide
Located in the Tsavo West region, Lumo Conservancy offers a quieter and wilder photographic environment, with rolling hills, open plains and dramatic natural light. It is excellent for wide-angle elephant photography, expansive landscapes, lions, hyenas, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, plains game and birds. A key feature is the Lions Bluff photo hide, which offers low-angle perspectives, reflections, close-range elephants, intimate wildlife portraits and nocturnal photography.
Masai Mara National Reserve
The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s most productive wildlife photography regions, particularly for big cats and open plains wildlife. This part of the itinerary focuses on lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, elephants, giraffes, plains game, birdlife and predator behaviour. As this safari takes place in August, there is also the possibility of Great Migration activity, including wildebeest herds and potential river crossing opportunities, depending on seasonal movement and conditions.
Luxury Safari Accommodation
This Wild Kenya Photo Safari uses a carefully selected mix of luxury safari camps, lodges and an airport hotel in Nairobi, chosen for their comfort, location, service and access to key wildlife areas. Each property has been selected to support the rhythm of a photographic safari, with early starts, full days in the field, comfortable spaces to rest and time to recharge equipment between activities.
In Amboseli, guests stay close to the park’s elephant-rich landscapes, allowing convenient access for morning and afternoon photographic drives. In Lumo Conservancy, the safari is based in the Lions Bluff area, combining private conservancy wildlife drives with access to the specialist Lions Bluff photo hide. In the Masai Mara, guests stay in a luxury tented camp with a dedicated photo studio, giving photographers a comfortable space for editing, tutorials, image review and post-processing support between time in the field.
The accommodation throughout this itinerary balances comfort, atmosphere and photographic access, giving guests a luxury safari experience while remaining close to the landscapes, wildlife and specialist facilities that make this journey so rewarding.
